Let’s take a Poetry Walk!

There's a lot of learning we can do together in our everyday lives! Next time you take a walk - take it all in!

Observe what you see, hear, smell, taste, feel.

When we observe our everyday world in this way, we're living like poets!

  • Poets look closely

  • Poets lean in

  • Poets listen

  • Poets wonder

  • Poets think

Then poets write it all down!

Take a walk, live like a poet, get curious, write it down, sketch it, build it!

When we look closely at the world, we find words to describe the details of what we see, smell, feel, taste, wonder, think. When we practice saying what we notice, wonder, and think with details, we eventually use those words to describe our writing!

Those descriptions give details to the reader of our writing! When we read, we think about the words the authors write on the page and we can envision those descriptions as we make our own movies in our imaginations!

Here’s a video from our YouTube channel sharing our everyday life learning during our poetry walk. Bonus! Here’s is a little present we made for you - it’s a download to create your own cards to take along on your poetry walk!

Go on a walk! Live like a poet! Share your poem - tell it, perform it, sketch it, write, it, build it!
